Vegan motorcycle gear advice

This section is intended as a guide to choosing vegan motorcycle gear, with advice on what to check for on labels and where animal products may secretly be hiding!

We would advise if possible to shop inshore and not online.

This will allow you to physically inspect the product and check the composition labels carefully rather than relying on sometimes incorrect online information.

GLOVES

Gloves are one of the most tricky items to source but there are still plenty of vegan options out there.

Make sure to check the label carefully for traces of animal products. There will be a leather symbol if there is any on the glove.

Some of the more likely vegan gloves are summer vented gloves such as the Alpinestars Reef, and winter waterproof gloves such as the old vegan favourite, the Rukka Virium.

BOOTS

Boots are some of the easier items to source as vegan.

Many boots are made from lorica and other man made materials.

Sidi and TCX offer a good vegan range, the Sidi Aria gore being a favourite.

The RST Tractech are a good sporty option.

As always, check the label on any prospective purchase. Their will be a leather symbol on the composition label if there is any present.

JACKETS

Jackets are easy enough to source, most textile jackets will be man made materials.

Beware of small leather patches on more premium clothing though!

TROUSERS

As with jackets, most textile trousers will be vegan, but check for any leather patches.

Riding jeans should be ok, but check the rear patch isn't made of leather.

In our experience, most, if not all of them are synthetic.

MOTORCYCLE TYRES

Sadly tyres, or tires for our American chums, are not always vegan due to stearic acid being used in the moulding process.

The following brands have confirmed to us that their tyres are not manufactured this way and are therefore vegan friendly:

-Michelin

-Pirelli

-Metzeler

-Bridgestone

-Heidenau

ARE MOTORCYCLE SEATS VEGAN?

It seems to be a common misconception that all motorcycle seats are made from leather.

The reality is that most seats are in fact made of vinyl for cost and weatherproofing reasons, so this isn't a major issue.

Some premium motorcycle seats are made from leather, but if your seat is standard it will 99% likely be vinyl unless specified.

As always, check with the manufacturer to be 100% sure, but the likelihood is that your seat will not be made from leather.
